The Destruction Of The High Street

The destruction of the High Street has been made unnecessarily worse by Brexit. Now it is being made much worse by the Coronavirus pandemic. If I were the Prime Minister I would be wondering how a personal dream of being the man of the hour could turn into such a nightmare.

Years ago, a friend from Iran who moved here after the Revolution there said to me ‘How can you live here? Nobody talks to one another.’

We in Britain adopted online buying and the self-checkout in supermarkets with ease. Look, no need to speak to anyone at all.

We have the highest per capita purchases of greeting cards in the world. Yet we have a reputation of not speaking to one another. Perhaps that is why we are such greeting card buyers.
